Unbraided (Loose) Sweetgrass (Local and Organic)
Utilize our loose Sweetgrass, grown locally and organically by a community of Indigenous First Nations, to cleanse the spirit and invite positive, uplifting energy through purification.
- If you’d like, you can still braid it later — soak the strands in a little warm water to soften them, then braid while damp and let dry.
Also called Seneca grass, holy grass, buffalo grass, and vanilla grass, this special herb has been called the sacred hair of Mother Earth.
Loose, unbraided sweetgrass can still be used in meaningful and practical ways — braiding is just the traditional preparation for storage and ceremonial use. Here are some good options for what you can do with it:
🌿 Burning & Smudging
-
Loose sweetgrass bundles – Tie small handfuls with cotton string and burn them like you would sage.
-
Charcoal discs – Place a pinch of sweetgrass on lit charcoal to release its sweet, vanilla-like aroma.
-
Incense bowls – Put loose pieces in a fireproof bowl with sand and light small sections.
🕯️ Home & Ritual Use
-
Aromatherapy – Place pieces in sachets, pouches, or jars to scent drawers, closets, or your car.
-
Offerings – Use loose strands as offerings in prayer, on an altar, or in nature ceremonies.
✨ Craft & Personal Use
-
Herbal blends – Mix with sage, cedar, or lavender in smudge mixes.
-
Weaving/crafts – If you enjoy handcrafts, loose strands can be incorporated into dreamcatchers, baskets, or tied around gifts.
-
Bath rituals – Add a few strands into a muslin bag and steep in bathwater for a gentle aromatic soak.
🌱 Storage Tips
-
Keep it dry and in a paper bag or glass jar (not plastic, which can trap moisture).
-
Store away from direct sunlight so it doesn’t lose potency.
