Why The Local Boom Is Different
Canadian since day one • Established 2017
A different kind of gift shop. An unmistakably Canadian one.
The Local Boom began online in 2017 with a simple idea: make it easier to discover great Canadian brands. Today, our Mount Pleasant shop brings those discoveries together in a space you can explore in person.
The difference is in the details
Thoughtfully chosen. Proudly Canadian.
There is a person, a process and a point of view behind what you find here. These are the commitments that have shaped The Local Boom from the beginning.
01 / OUR FOCUS
Canadian brands, always
We built this shop around Canadian businesses in 2017, and that focus still guides every brand we bring in. Explore the makers and stories behind our selection on our Canadian brands page.
02 / OUR EDIT
Selected by real people
Our owner, Steven, hand selects products for the shop. We look for things we are excited to share: a candle that smells wonderful, skincare that feels good, or a gift with a story worth telling.
03 / OUR PLACE
A shop you can walk into
Our storefront opened in Mount Pleasant in 2020. Come smell a candle, compare scents, find a last-minute gift, or discover a Canadian maker you had never heard of before.
One independent shop. More than 300 Canadian brands. Thousands of ways to find something that feels personal.
From online roots to a neighbourhood shop
Here for your first discovery and your next favourite
We launched online in 2017 to connect shoppers across Canada with independent Canadian brands. In 2020, we opened our Vancouver storefront at 504 East Broadway. The shelves now hold self-care, natural skincare, candles, greeting cards, food, home finds and gifts from makers across the country.
That mix is part of the fun. You can visit for a specific product and leave with a new favourite, or browse from home and have your finds shipped across Canada. Either way, your order supports an independent Canadian retailer and the brands we choose to carry.
