We were shopping Canadian before shopping Canadian was cool.
Welcome to The Local Boom! We are an independent Canadian gift shop with a big love for small businesses, wonderfully made products and gifts that are genuinely fun to give.
We launched online in February 2017 with one clear idea: create a store devoted to Canadian brands. Before opening our Vancouver storefront—and years before “shop Canadian” became a major retail movement—we were helping people across the country discover Canadian-made gifts, natural skincare, candles, bath and body products, greeting cards, gourmet treats and everyday self-care.
Were we the very first? That is difficult to prove conclusively. But we were absolutely early to the party, and we are proud to be one of Canada’s early online shops built exclusively around independent Canadian brands.

The Local Boom began as an ecommerce-first business, shipping Canadian products to customers from coast to coast. In 2020, we opened our physical shop in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood—a place where you can smell the candles, try skincare textures, find the perfect card and discover brands you may not see everywhere else.
Our shelves are cheerful, colourful and constantly changing. We love tracking down fantastic products, meeting the people who make them and introducing those discoveries to you. Some are established Canadian favourites. Others are tiny businesses receiving one of their first opportunities on a retail shelf.
