Cactus Blend-Potting Soil For Indoor Plants
Give desert plants the drainage and airflow they need with Maya Growing Mediums Cactus Soil. Made in North Vancouver, this peat-moss-free potting mix is designed for cacti, succulents and other indoor plants that are sensitive to excess moisture around their roots.
Coarse perlite, garden sand, charcoal, coco chunks and fir bark create a loose, mineral-rich structure that allows water to drain efficiently. Worm castings and sea minerals provide gentle nutrient support without turning the mix into a dense or moisture-heavy soil.
Fast-Draining Cactus and Succulent Soil
Cacti and many succulents store water in their stems, leaves or roots. This adaptation allows them to tolerate periods of dryness, but it can also make them vulnerable when their growing medium remains wet for too long.
Maya Cactus Soil uses coarse and structured ingredients to create air spaces and encourage excess water to move away from the root zone. This makes it more appropriate for desert plants than a fine, moisture-retentive general potting soil.
Rapid Drainage
Garden sand, perlite and charcoal help excess water move through the growing medium.
Root Aeration
Coarse ingredients create air spaces around roots and help reduce soil compaction.
Peat-Free Formula
A thoughtfully formulated cactus mix made without conventional peat moss.

How to Use
- Choose a clean container with adequate drainage holes.
- Carefully remove the cactus or succulent from its existing container.
- Gently loosen the roots and remove loose, compacted or deteriorated old soil.
- Add Maya Cactus Soil and position the plant at approximately its previous growing depth.
- Fill around the roots without compressing the mixture too tightly.
- Water according to the needs of the plant and allow all excess water to drain.
- Place the plant in suitable light and allow the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings.
Maya recommends repotting many cacti and succulents approximately every two to three years, ideally during the spring or summer growing season. The best timing will depend on the plant’s health, growth rate and container size.

Cactus Soil FAQ
Can I use regular potting soil for a cactus?
Regular potting soil may retain more water than many cacti prefer. A coarse cactus mix is designed to drain more rapidly and maintain additional airflow around the roots.
Can I use this soil for succulents?
Yes. Maya recommends this blend for cacti, succulents and several other drought-tolerant plants that prefer fast-draining soil.
Is Maya Cactus Soil peat-free?
Yes. Maya describes its Cactus Blend as a peat-moss-free growing medium.
Does fast-draining soil prevent root rot?
Fast-draining soil can help reduce the prolonged wet conditions that contribute to root problems, but it cannot prevent root rot on its own. Proper watering, drainage holes, light, temperature and plant health also matter.
