How to Make Your Own Natural Bath Bombs at Home

Bath bombs are a popular way to add some fizz, color, and fragrance to your bath time. They can also provide some benefits for your skin, such as moisturizing, exfoliating, and soothing. However, not all bath bombs are created equal. Some commercial bath bombs may contain artificial ingredients, such as synthetic fragrances, dyes, preservatives, and sulfates, that can irritate your skin or cause allergic reactions.

That’s why making your own natural bath bombs at home is a great alternative. You can customize them with your favorite scents, colors, and ingredients, and avoid any harmful chemicals. Plus, they are easy and fun to make!

In this blog post, I will show you how to make your own natural bath bombs using simple ingredients that you can find in your kitchen or local health store. You will need:

  • 1 cup of baking soda
  • 1/2 cup of citric acid
  • 1/2 cup of Epsom salt
  • 1/8 cup of kaolin clay
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon of water
  • 20-30 drops of essential oil of your choice (I used lavender for this batch)
  • Natural food coloring (optional)
  • A large mixing bowl
  • A whisk
  • A silicone mold or a muffin tin

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the baking soda, citric acid, Epsom salt, and cornstarch. These are the dry ingredients that will create the fizzing effect when they react with water.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the melted coconut oil, water, essential oil, and food coloring (if using). These are the wet ingredients that will bind the dry ingredients together and add moisture and fragrance to your bath bombs.
  3. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, a few drops at a time, while whisking continuously. Be careful not to add too much at once, or the mixture will start to fizz prematurely. You want the mixture to be slightly damp, but not wet. It should hold together when you squeeze it in your hand, but not crumble or stick.
  4. Pack the mixture firmly into your mold or muffin tin, filling each cavity about 3/4 full. You can use your fingers or a spoon to press it down. You can also mix and match different colors and scents to create your own unique combinations.
  5. Let the bath bombs dry for at least 24 hours in a cool and dry place. You can speed up the process by placing them in the fridge or freezer for a few hours, but make sure they are completely dry before removing them from the mold or tin.
  6. Enjoy your natural bath bombs! To use them, simply drop one or two into your bathtub filled with warm water and watch them fizz and dissolve. You can also store them in an airtight container for up to six months.
