“Shop Canadian” is everywhere now — on storefront windows, social media, and marketing campaigns across the country.
But for us, it was never a trend.
The Local Boom started in 2017 with one simple idea: support Canadian brands, entrepreneurs, and makers — exclusively. Just a clear belief that investing in Canadian businesses strengthens our communities, our economy, and our future.
Starting with Purpose in 2017
When we launched in 2017, supporting Canadian brands wasn’t mainstream.
At the time:
-
Big-box retailers dominated
-
Fast shipping and mass production were the norm
-
Independent Canadian makers were often overlooked
But we saw something different.
We saw talented entrepreneurs across Canada creating incredible products — from clean beauty and self-care to candles, food, home goods, and gifts — and struggling to get visibility in a crowded market.
So we built a platform just for them.
Growing by Advocating, Not Following Trends
We didn’t grow by chasing trends or jumping on movements after they became popular.
We grew by:
-
advocating for Canadian brands year after year
-
curating thoughtfully instead of scaling recklessly
-
building trust with customers who care where their money goes
-
showing up consistently for makers and entrepreneurs
Every year since 2017, The Local Boom has grown — not because shopping Canadian suddenly became fashionable, but because people value authenticity, community, and purpose.
Canadian-Only Was (and Still Is) the Foundation
From day one, our commitment was clear:
Every product we carry is made by a Canadian brand.
That clarity matters.
Today, many retailers highlight Canadian products alongside imported ones — and that’s great. But our difference is simple:
This has always been our entire business model.
It’s not a category for us.
It’s our identity.
Supporting Entrepreneurs, Not Just Products
Behind every Canadian brand is a real person:
-
a founder taking a risk
-
a family business
-
a small team building something meaningful
When you shop Canadian, you’re not just buying an item — you’re supporting livelihoods, creativity, and local innovation.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of Canadian entrepreneurs, watching brands grow, evolve, and succeed. That’s been one of the most rewarding parts of our journey.
From Online to In-Store, Community Has Always Come First
As The Local Boom grew, so did our community.
What started online expanded into a physical storefront in Mount Pleasant, Vancouver — allowing us to connect with customers face-to-face, showcase Canadian brands in real life, and continue building something tangible and local.
Whether online or in-store, our goal has stayed the same:
to make supporting Canadian brands easy, inspiring, and accessible.
Why This Still Matters Today
Now that “Shop Canadian” is more visible than ever, the message matters more — not less.
Supporting Canadian brands:
-
keeps money in our local economy
-
helps small businesses thrive
-
encourages ethical, thoughtful consumption
-
strengthens communities across the country
We’re proud to see more people choosing Canadian-made products. And we’re proud to say we’ve been here, doing the work, long before it was trending.
Looking Ahead
As we move into another year, our mission remains unchanged.
We’ll continue to:
-
champion Canadian brands
-
support entrepreneurs
-
curate with care
-
and grow responsibly
Because for us, supporting the Canadian economy isn’t a campaign —
it’s a long-term commitment.
Thank you for being part of that journey with us.
